This notice explains how we protect your child's privacy in Kids Mode. We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and providing the safest possible experience for children.
What is Kids Mode?
Kids Mode is a specially designed, child-safe area of FLUMC Daily Devotionals (current series: Awakened to Grace) that provides:
- ✅ Age-appropriate biblical content - Stories, devotionals, and lessons suitable for children
- ✅ PIN-protected access - Only parents can enable, configure, and exit Kids Mode
- ✅ Complete privacy - We collect ZERO personal information from children
- ✅ No social features - No posting, commenting, or interaction with other users
- ✅ Safe browsing - All content pre-approved by our moderation team

COPPA Compliance
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), a federal law that protects children under 13 years old online.
What this means:
- We obtain verifiable parental consent before Kids Mode is enabled
- We explain exactly what data we collect (spoiler: it's almost nothing!)
- We give you control to review, delete, and refuse data collection
- We never sell your child's information to third parties
What Information Do We Collect in Kids Mode?

We designed Kids Mode to be maximally private. Here's what we collect:

- Content viewed - Which Bible stories or devotionals your child reads (stored locally on your device only)
- Time spent in app - For parental activity reports (optional feature)
- Parent's account info - Kids Mode uses YOUR account with PIN protection

- ❌ Child's name, email, or any contact information
- ❌ Photos or videos from the device
- ❌ Location data or GPS coordinates
- ❌ Device identifiers for advertising
- ❌ Voice recordings or microphone access
- ❌ Camera access
- ❌ Search queries or browsing history
- ❌ Analytics data (Google Analytics & PostHog disabled)
- ❌ Session replay recordings (PostHog disabled)
- ❌ Social media posts or comments
- ❌ Messages or chat history
- ❌ Contacts or friends list

🔐 How We Keep Kids Safe
1. PIN Protection
- Only parents can enable/disable Kids Mode
- PINs are encrypted and never stored in plain text
- Sessions auto-expire after 4 hours of inactivity
- Kids cannot exit without parent PIN
2. Content Moderation
- All content is pre-approved by our moderation team
- Age ratings ensure appropriate content for each age group
- Continuous monitoring for quality and safety
- Parents can report inappropriate content instantly
3. No Social Interaction
- Kids cannot see or interact with other users
- No profiles, posts, comments, or messages
- Completely isolated experience
- Zero contact with strangers
4. Secure Infrastructure
- All data encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure cloud storage (Firebase/Google Cloud)
- Regular security audits
- No third-party advertising or tracking
- Analytics disabled (Google Analytics & PostHog completely turned off)
- Session replay disabled (no recordings of Kids Mode activity)
5. Enhanced Navigation Security (October 2025)
- Back navigation completely blocked - Kids cannot swipe or use back buttons to exit
- PIN required for ALL exit attempts - No exceptions, no bypasses
- App restart protection - Kids Mode persists even if app is force-quit and reopened
- Session continuity - Children are automatically locked back into Kids Mode on app restart
- Force-quit protection - Cannot restart app to access full features
📋 Your Parental Rights
As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:
✅ Review
- View what content your child accessed
- See activity reports and time spent
- Check Kids Mode settings anytime
✅ Control
- Enable or disable Kids Mode at any time
- Set age-appropriate content filters
- Change or reset PIN
- Configure time limits (optional)
✅ Delete
- Request deletion of any collected data
- Disable Kids Mode permanently
- Delete your entire account (including Kids Mode data)
✅ Refuse
- Refuse data collection (though functionality may be limited)
- Opt out of activity reports
- Decline optional features
🤝 How to Manage Kids Mode
To Enable Kids Mode:
- Go to Settings → Family Settings → Parental Controls
- Tap Enable Parental Controls
- Read and accept this privacy notice
- Create a secure 4-6 digit PIN
- Tap Start Kids Mode
- Select your child's age
To Exit Kids Mode:
- Tap the Exit button in Kids Mode
- Enter your PIN
- You'll return to the normal app
To Disable Kids Mode:
- Go to Settings → Family Settings → Parental Controls
- Tap Disable Parental Controls
- Enter your PIN to confirm

We respond to all inquiries within 48 hours.
🔄 Changes to This Notice
We may update this Kids Mode Privacy Notice from time to time. When we do:
- We'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top
- We'll notify you via email
- We'll require you to review and accept the updated notice
- Significant changes will require new parental consent
